PRESS RELEASE – March 27, 2020 Campaign Against Illegal Logging

A cellular phone call received from a concerned citizen on March 26, 2020 around 11:00AM, informing San Francisco Municipal Police Station that there was an alleged unloading of charcoal wood at Purok-6, Barangay Diaz, San Francisco, Surigao del Norte. Immediately, personnel of San Francisco Municipal Police Station led by PCMS Joy L Pantilo proceeded to the aforementioned place to confirm the veracity of the said report. Upon arrival they only saw an abandoned thirty (30) sacks of charcoal wood.

Initial investigation conducted that the charcoal wood was owned by Ramil Jamesula, legal age, male, married, a resident of Barangay Masgad, Malimono, Surigao del Norte. The recovered charcoal wood had an estimated market value of Seven Thousand Five Hundred Pesos (Php7, 500).

Recovered charcoal wood were brought to San Francisco Municipal Police Station for proper disposition.

Report on Apprehension of Suspects in relation With the Implementation of EO-25 (Observance of Curfew Hours)

Duty desk officer of General Luna Municipal Police Station received a phone call from Barangay Officials of Barangay Catangnan General Luna Surigao del Norte on March 25, 2020 around 11:55PM, informing that a group of people gathered together while having a drinking spree/party at O’Hana Resort acted upon the said report. Personnel of General Luna Municipal Police Station proceeded to the said place and it was found out positive. Responding PNP personnel approached them and introduced their selves and explained to them the nature of their offense.

Person involved caught in relation with the implementation of Executive Oreder No. 25, Series of 2020 (Observance of Curfew Hours) were identified as Jason De Leon Pinaroc, 34 years old, male, Filipino, single, General Manager of O’Hana Resort residing in Barangay Catangan; Alvin Espejon Consigo, 24 years old, male, Filipino, surfing instructor and a resident of Barangay Catangnan, General Luna; Keith Gonzaga Uy, 29 years old, male, Filipino, General Manager and a resident of Barangay 5, General Luna Surigao del Norte; Nick Leonard Sulapas, 25 years old, single, Jobless and resident of Barangay 2, General Luna, Surigao del Norte; Lawrence Michael Solon Romarate, 27 years old, male, Filipino, single, boxing instructor, and a resident of Barangay Catangnan General Luna Surigao del Norte; Alima Begum 31 years old, female, single, designer, British National, temporarily staying at O’Hana Resort, Barangay Catangnan General Luna; Jaiar Yoenes, 30 years old, Female, single, French National, Temporarily staying at O’Hana Resort Barangay Catangnan General Luna; and Matilda Ramoss, 22 years old, female, Mexican National temporary staying at O’hana Resort situated in Brgy. Catangnan, General Luna, Surigao del Norte.

Suspects were brought to General Luna Municipal Police Station for documentation and for filing of a case against them after apprising their Constitutional Rights as construed in the Miranda Doctrine and the nature of their arrest to the language known to them and Anti Torture Act.

Arrest of Suspects for Theft Incident

A cellular phone call was received by the duty desk officer of Placer Municipal Police Station from a concerned citizen on March 26 around 12:00AM, informing that a theft of ore minerals has transpired in MANILA MINING COMPOUND, Brgy. Magsaysay, Placer, Surigao del Norte. Upon receipt of the information, personnel of Placer MPS together with 2nd SDN PMFC immediately conducted joint operation in the area to verify the veracity of said report. Around 12:30AM of same date, suspects who were caught on the act illegally digging ore minerals inside the compound of MANILA MINING were arrested, namely:

  1. Junry Bernal Gegona, male, Filipino, married, miner, resident of P-2, Brgy. Ban-ban, Tagana-an, Surigao del Norte;
  2. b. Rico Bernal Gegona, male, Filipino, married, 38 years old, miner, resident of P-2, Brgy. Ban-ban, Tagana-an, Surigao del Norte;
  3. Genaro Lariusa Lascoña, male, Filipino, married, 55 years old, miner, resident of P-2, Brgy. Ban-ban, Tagana-an, Surigao del Norte;
  4. Marjun Balicog Samonte, male, Filipino, single, 25 years old, miner, resident of P-2, Brgy. San Isidro, Placer, Surigao del Norte;
  5. Aldrin Jay Camporedondo, male, Filipino, married, 25 years old, miner, resident of P-2, Brgy. San Isidro, Placer, Surigao del Norte;
  6. Kent Louie Orejas Ventic, male, Filipino, single, 28 years old, miner, resident of P-2, Brgy. San Isidro, Placer, Surigao del Norte;
  7. Michael Moncada Delapuz, male, Filipino, single, 21 years old, miner, resident of P-2, Brgy. San Isidro, Placer, Surigao del Norte; and
  8. Jeffrey Sheba Daraog, male, Filipino, single, 38 years old, miner, resident of P-2, Brgy. San Isidro, Placer, Surigao del Norte.

Confiscated from the suspects’ possessions are as follows:

  1. Three (3) pcs. crow bar (bara);
  2. Three (3) pcs. small crow bar (moil);
  3. One (1) pc. Long sharp bladed weapon (sundang);
  4. One (1) pc. Improvise air pump (paragwa);
  5. Six (6) meters PVC hose.

Suspects were duly informed of their Constitutional Rights and Anti-Torture Act upon their arrest and they were brought to Placer Municipal Police Station to include the pieces of evidence for proper disposition and filing of formal complaint against the arrested suspects.
