Surigao del Norte (SDN)– Surigao City Police Station, Port Police, Department of Environment and Natural Resources and Philippine Coast Guard conducted joint Anti-illegal logging operation which resulted to the arrest of a suspect for transporting undocumented forest products worth Php 793, 611.00 in Gate 1(Port Area), Brgy. Taft, Surigao, July 18, 2021.
Provincial Director (PD) Police Colonel Noel C Espinoza identified the person as Danny Borres Simeon, 32 years old, driver and a resident of Purok Mabuhay, Brgy. Salawagan, Quezon, Bukidnon.
Investigation disclosed that the suspect was intercepted while onboard an Orange Mitsubishi Fuso Aluminium Wing Van bearing plate number KAJ, loaded with 8,435.27 board feet pure Lauan lumber with an estimated market value of Php 793, 611.00.
The driver suspect failed to present pertinent documents to authorities. Further, the said forest products were covered with cut coconut lumber as their alibi.
He was brought to Surigao City PS and will face charges under Presidential Decree 705 or the Revised Forestry Code of the Philippines. Confiscated lumber will be turned over to the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office.
“I lauded the troops for the successful operation. We urge the public to be more vigilant and help us protect our environment by reporting any suspected illegal logging activities in their localities,” PD Espinoza said.
